Observation Proformas

Observing students’ teaching and giving them constructive feedback is one of the most powerful ways to influence practice. Some observation forms encourage the observer, whether tutor, class teacher or mentor, to focus on language and inclusion.

A number of sample observation forms are included here which are designed to focus on inclusive practice regarding linguistic and ethnic diversity. These have been developed for new and more experienced teachers. However they have been of interest to several tutors who are planning to use them with trainee teachers. The aspects of teaching noted for observation are generally considered representative of good classroom practice for teaching pupils learning English as an additional language.

We would particularly welcome feedback and exemplars from colleagues who have used these or similar proformas.
