The recent release of the 2009 Early Years Foundation Stage Profile Assessments by different pupil characteristics shows that 53.5 percent of pupils whose first language is English achieve a good level of development, compared with 41.9 of pupils for whom English is an additional language. The 'good level' refers to children achieving 6 or more points across the 7 Scales of PSE and Communication, Language and Literacy (CLL) and who also achieve 78 or more points across all 13 scales. This measure therefore relates strongly to children's early English language skills.
