Using video to support teacher education about EAL

For many years, teacher educators have used video to help students to plan and teach with the needs of EAL and bilingual learners in mind. This approach has been found to be valuable both to prepare student teachers for the challenge of supporting bilingual learners on their placements and to provide an insight into a multilingual teaching context for students placed in mainly white schools. This approach has often been the limited by the range of video material available. Suitable video footage has now become more widely available, most notably through Teachers TV.

Teacher educators can find links to a selection of Teachers TV programmes relating to EAL and diversity, accompanied by session notes drawing from material on this site. Session notes include commentary from teacher educators.

TeachersTV provided a freely downloadable and editable resource for teacher educators. Although TeachersTV has closed, a number of organisation provide access to the programmes including the sources listed below.
