Sad news has reached NALDIC that Linda Rockey HMI died on Friday 22nd July.
Linda was Ofsted's National Point of Reference for EAL for many years. She had been seriously ill four years ago but had recovered and was back at work four days a week. Under Linda's tenure she ensured that EAL continued to have a high profile following Silvaine Wiles' retirement and chaired an EAL group of HMI within Ofsted. She was responsible for all EAL survey work in the early 2000's including Managing the Ethnic Minority Grant - good practice in secondary / primary schools published in 2004. She wrote the guidance in inspections briefings following the launch of a new framework in 2005. Despite stepping down from the role in 2006 she never lost her commitment to EAL and was recently due to lead EAL training for HMI colleagues, part of which she had written. She will be sadly missed within Ofsted and within the wider EAL community
