100% of bilingual pupils make expected progress in more than 1000 schools

In a new refinement to school performance tables, parents and others can find out how well bilingual pupils do in standard assessment tasks in their local school. The latest performance tables include an 'EAL and gender' tab which shows the percentage of pupils whose first language is not English who attained Level 4 or above in English and mathematics for each state maintained school in England. The tables also show the percentage of bilingual pupils making expected progress.

In nearly 400 of the primary schools listed, 100 per cent of bilingual pupils in Year 6 attained a Level 4 or above in both English and mathematics. In more than 1000 schools, 100 per cent of bilingual pupils made expected or better progress in English. Further information, for example the number of the cohort for whom English is an additional language, can also be found by clicking 'Cohort information (111)'.

As yet the performance tables do not show the attainment of pupils by ethnic group but this information is likely to be found on school websites as part of the Equality information that each school is required to publish.
