Leading Partners in English as an Additional Language programme

NALDIC is delighted by the news that the TDA is launching Leading Partners in English as an Additional Language programme. The TDA will fund eight projects; four focused on primary and four on secondary as part of this new initiative. Each project will look at strengthening partnership and training in EAL.

In the announcement, the TDA has invited proposals from consortia which include providers of initial teacher training (ITT) and partner schools. The TDA intends to support eight projects, four in primary phase and four secondary phase, to take place in the Spring and Summer terms 2012, with funding of £5,000 for each project.

The aim of the project is to:

  • provide opportunities for trainee teachers to learn from, and work with, effective teachers and practitioners on the teaching, learning and assessment of EAL pupils
  • provide excellent modelling of professional practice, and
  • help trainees to plan for, and support, progress in EAL through, for example, subjects and main stream teaching, one to one tuition and small group teaching.

The EAL pupils in this project include the whole range of EAL pupils from new arrivals/ early stage learners to advanced bilingual learners.

The full project documents are available here.

The closing date for proposals is 4.00pm on Friday 18 November 2011.

All questions relating to this project should be sent to languages@tda.gov.uk
